Chrysalis Center announces #DonationCreation2020 will launch on May 1st and is currently seeking individuals and teams to sign up.
#DonationCreation2020 is a month-long food drive which invites individuals and teams to collect nonperishable food items for families in need (canned goods, rice, cereal) and is relying on the community’s generosity now more than ever as they have an increased need during the COVID-19 crisis.
#DonationCreation2020 runs from May 1 through June 1, 2020. This year, due to the pandemic and practicing social distancing, rather than making a “creation” of items collected, as teams have done in the past, the organization is asking for individuals and teams to be creative, chose a “team name” and collect nonperishable items to benefit Freshplace, located on Chrysalis Center’s main campus, at 255 Homestead Avenue in Hartford. Freshplace serves up to 300 individuals and families living in the poorest neighborhoods of Hartford.
In addition, online donations are also accepted to help the organization purchase food in need.
Individuals and teams (organized through friends, schools, companies, neighbors or other groups) are invited to collect items and share their activity on social media, using the hashtag #DonationCreation2020.
“It’s a food drive with a twist”, said Adria Giordano, Director of Development and Communications at Chrysalis Center, and a “wonderful way for people to give back to help those in need, while practicing social distancing. We have an increased need since the pandemic has hit our State. In addition to feeding our Freshplace clients and families, we are also giving out food to families in our other programs as well, who may have a comprised health situation or are elderly and cannot get to the grocery store.”
To register as an individual or team and receive a Donation Creation “Took Kit” with instructions and delivery information email Nancy Sherman or call (860) 263-4419.
