Stories – Harold

Harold found himself through difficult life circumstances spiral deeply into major depression.

His depression isolated him, closed the world around him and limited any prospects for happiness and peace in his life.

Harold sought psychiatric help and was referred to the Recovery and Empowerment Center to combat his isolation.  Harold found peers in the Recovery Center that understood the darkness of major depression, he found acceptance and most significantly he found hope.

Harold picked up an African drum one day and found his rhythm and tenor.  Harold formed a drumming circle for his peers in the Recovery Center and called it “Talking Drums” Each week Harold leads a drumming circle where clients can drum and talk about whatever may be on their mind or in their hearts.  Talking Drums provides healing, inner peace and a place to be accepted for our clients.

Harold is expanding his drumming work into the community at events and venues.  We are grateful for Harold and the talent he shares each week with our clients.  His beat goes on, upbeat and in tune….
