Stories – Farmington Bank

Farmington Bank through the Farmington Bank Foundation delivered a $5,000 grant to help support the operations of Freshplace.

The Farmington Bank Community Foundation has awarded Chrysalis Center $5,000 to support Freshplace, the organization’s innovative food pantry. Executive Director of the Farmington Bank Community Foundation, Chris Traczyk, pictured on the front page from right to left, with Jon Mitchell, Freshplace Program Manger, Sharon Castelli, Chief Executive Officer and Arlene Greco, Director of Development, presented a check to Chrysalis Center.

Freshplace is Chrysalis Center’s fresh food pantry serving residents of Hartford’s Upper Albany, Clay Arsenal and Asylum Hill neighborhoods. Freshplace not only provides fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat and staple items to families in need, but offers case management and employment services, as well as linking participants to additional support services in the community.

Farmington Bank has been a great support of Chrysalis Center helping the organization with its annual Christmas Tree and Wreath Sale each December, and most recently by donating diapers to Freshplace

Rich Suski and Jenna Augusti ( pictured above) from Farmington Bank previously had delivered 2,074 diapers to Freshplace. Freshplace was one of 34 food pantries in the Hartford area that Farmington Bank committed to helping with their diaper drive on behalf of the Farmington Bank Community Foundation.

Freshplace is a fresh food pantry that resembles a supermarket that serves the Upper Albany/Asylum Hill neighborhoods in Hartford. Freshhplace not only provides fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, meats and staple items to families in need, but also links participants to additional support services in the community. Participants in this innovative food pantry model demonstrate greater food security and self-sufficiency than patrons of traditional food pantries. Freshplace has recently been involved with other community food pantries to help replicate its innovative approach.
