Stories – Dr. Patrick Corrigan

Dr. Patrick Corrigan, Psy.d, Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology spoke at the TCC (Training and Conference Center) on the Chrysalis campus Friday, April 28th.

The event, sponsored by The Office of the Commissioner, State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DHMAS) was attended by over 150 social service professionals.

Dr. Corrigan works at the forefront of understanding stigmatization of people with mental illness in our society. Dr. Corrigan is a person with lived experience. His research examines psychiatric disability and the impact of stgma on recovery and rehabilitation.

Dr. Corrigan reflected that stigmatization of people with mental illnees is widespread in society and addressed "What is stigma and how does it negatively affect patient outcomes and how can it be reduced."
