Railway Gardens

In Hartford’s impoverished Upper Albany neighborhood, fresh vegetables are hard to come by. Railway Gardens is a volunteer effort to grow fresh foods for patrons of the Freshplace food pantry. The gardens feature 15 raised beds with more than 500 square feet of space to grow a variety of vegetables. Volunteers plant in the spring, tend the garden throughout the summer and harvest the vegetables as they mature, helping to feed those in need throughout our community.
